I moved to the area near Gage Park in May 2006 and have since walked through this lovely public space almost daily over the past year. I've also noticed that this park is a prime location for people to walk their dogs and I also enjoy taking our dog to the park.
After driving 20 minutes or so to get to this Cities only fenced in dog park way up by the SPCA on Dartnal Road it occured to me that this city is in desparate need of a proper dog park in a location where people actualy live.
A little research and I found that I am already too late to comment on the Gage Park Master plan, the public meetings were held June 20th and 21st 2006 while I was still settling into my new house.
So I was hoping to ask the people at this board if the issue of a fenced in Dog Park, as defined by the City of Hamilton Leash free parks program policy was ever raised at these meetings?
I have a feeling that this issue must have been discussed and dissmissed as unfeasible for Gage Park. As I read the application form for creating a Dog park I can see possible issues with proximity to urban areas, fencing costs and so on.
Anybody with any information about the public sessions on the Gage Park Master plan, please post with details, I would be very interested to hear what went on last year. |

I'm not personally aware of what went on at those meetings, but here is an "update" post regarding a leash-free park in Ward 1. There is some useful information here including a link to the city's leash free policies:

I would start there and then email your councillor directly with your questions. You should get a response if you are patient with them! |
